Anxiety

Anxiety

Anxiety is a natural response to feeling stressed, frightened or threatened. When it becomes overwhelming or persistent, it can interfere with our daily life, our relationships, and well-being. It can manifest itself in many ways, including excessive worry, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, irritability, sleep disturbances, and physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, chest pains, shortness of breath and panic attacks.

Whether you're struggling with generalised anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, or health anxiety, I provide a safe and supportive space to help you to understand and manage these challenges. We can work together to uncover the root causes of your anxiety and develop strategies to help you to find a sense of calm. Using evidence-based approaches drawn from trauma informed psychotherapy, mindfulness and CBT, we will address unhelpful thought patterns and build coping skills for managing anxiety in your everyday life. This can help you to feel more empowered and resilient in facing life's uncertainties.

Childhood Trauma

Childhood trauma can have a deep and long-lasting impact. Adult survivors of complex childhood trauma can struggle with making sense of what has happened to them. It can be hard to process feelings, leading to a sense of being stuck in the past and unable to move forward. This can result in many painful symptoms both psychological and physical. These may include anxiety and depression, mood disorders, difficulties in forming healthy relationships, addictions, co-dependency and love addiction, self-sabotaging behaviours, and low self-esteem.

I provide a safe, compassionate space where you can explore and process childhood experiences at your own pace. Together, we will work to identify how early wounding may be affecting you today. I can help you to develop tools to foster healing and resilience using approaches such as inner child work, internal family systems, somatic processing and compassion-based therapy. I can support you in the deep work of rewriting the internal narratives shaped by trauma, abuse and neglect. This can help build a future where you feel more confident, whole, and at peace.

Relationship Difficulties

Relationship Difficulties

Relationships can be both fulfilling and challenging.  Recurring conflicts and disappointments can originate from longstanding patterns in the way we communicate and connect. As your therapist, I can help you to explore underlying dynamics, uncovering how past experiences, attachment styles, and unspoken expectations may be shaping your interactions.

I can help you to gain deeper understanding of what triggers you in relationships and help you to self sooth and regain calm when this happens. We can look at communication styles and expectations, and how this impacts upon your relationships. We can work together to develop healthier, more constructive ways to express needs, set boundaries and foster deeper understanding. I can support you to build more fulfilling and authentic relationships—whether with a partner, family member, friend, or colleague.

Workplace Stress

Workplace stress can take a significant toll on both your mental and physical well-being, affecting your performance, relationships and overall quality of life. It can drain your energy, leaving you feeling empty and disconnected from meaning. Whether you're dealing with burnout, difficult colleagues, overwhelming responsibilities, or a lack of work-life balance, I provide a supportive space to help you navigate these challenges.

Together, we will identify the underlying causes of your stress, explore patterns that may be contributing to it, and develop practical strategies to foster resilience and well-being. Using evidence-based approaches such as mindfulness, cognitive-behavioural techniques, and stress management tools, I will support you in creating healthier boundaries, improving communication, and finding greater fulfilment in your professional life.

Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem usually originates from multiple interconnected sources rather than a single cause. Early childhood experiences often play a crucial role. As children, if we receive consistent criticism, conditional love, or neglect, we can internalise a message of being fundamentally flawed or unworthy. Traumatic experiences, especially those involving rejection, abandonment, or abuse, can deeply wound our sense of self-worth.

Social comparison is another significant factor. We live in a culture that constantly encourages us to measure ourselves against others, whether through social media, achievements, or appearances. This comparison mindset makes it difficult to appreciate our inherent value and self-worth, independent of messages from society, family or friends.

Striving for perfectionism also undermines self-esteem by creating impossible standards for ourselves. When we believe we must be flawless to be worthy, we're setting ourselves up to fail as perfection is impossible.
Our inner critic - that harsh, judgmental inner voice - often develops as a protective mechanism, trying to keep us safe by anticipating external criticism. However, it can become overactive and destructive, constantly highlighting our flaws, while diminishing our strengths and accomplishments.

Self-esteem can be rebuilt through self-awareness, challenging negative thought patterns, developing self-compassion and self-care. My therapeutic approach honours your psyche's innate wisdom and healing capacity, supporting you as you forge a more authentic relationship with yourself—one characterised by self-compassion, wholeness, and a renewed sense of your own intrinsic worth.

Grief and Loss

Grief is a natural and deeply human response to loss, yet it is often misunderstood or pushed aside in this busy world. I view grief not as something to "get over" but as an inner process that calls for deep attention, reverence and compassion. I provide a compassionate space where you can fully honour your loss, explore your feelings in depth and work towards finding a sense of meaning.
Together, we will uncover the hidden layers of grief—whether it stems from the loss of a loved one, unmet dreams, or life transitions—and work toward integration and healing. Using a blend of mindfulness, storytelling, and expressive techniques, I will support you in navigating sorrow while also reconnecting with love, resilience, and the beauty that still exists in your life.

Grief is not limited to the loss of a loved one—it can arise from many forms of loss, including the end of a relationship, unmet dreams, life transitions, or even the parts of ourselves we have had to leave behind. As Francis Weller reminds us, “Mourning is the work of the soul. It is an essential and inescapable part of being human, a rite of passage that deepens our capacity for compassion, wisdom, and connection.”
